Germany: NDR to meet on November 25th to discuss 2018 Eurovision plans

Today, Iris Bents, the press officer at German broadcaster NDR, has confirmed that a meeting to discuss Germany’s Eurovision plans will take place in Cologne on November 25th. Nevertheless, Germany has yet to launch a call for submissions despite claims suggesting otherwise.

A new format in the works

Back in June, NDR confirmed it would work on a new Eurovision selection format for next year’s Eurovision Song Contest. This follows a string of poor results for one of Europe’s most populous nations, who have scored three consecutive bottom three finishes. Indeed, this includes two last-place finishes in 2015 and 2016 by Ann Sophie and Jamie-Lee respectively.

A call for “unique musicians”?

Earlier today, Germany-based Prinz Blog reported that Zentralen Auslands und Fachvermittlung (ZAV) has been sending out emails that invite “unique” musicians to represent Germany in Lisbon next year. ZAV is a company that represents various artists, giving them opportunities they may not be able to achieve by themselves.

NDR: No open submissions process has yet been authorised

Nevertheless, NDR’s press officer moved quickly to deny any suggestions that an open call was underway. Iris Bents has revealed that NDR has yet to officially authorise any submissions process. Further details regarding Germany’s Eurovision plans for 2018 should be expected to be announced shortly. In addition, Eurovoix reports that Bents revealed that a meeting will take place at NDR at the end of next month.
