Once upon a time, a king asked his three daughters how much they loved him.

The first daughter said, 'I love you as much as sugar.'
The second daughter said, I love you as much as honey.'
The king was very happy to hear this and rewarded the daughters for loving him so much.

But when the third daughter said, 'I love you as much as salt and water', the king was so angry that he ordered his men to banish her from the kingdom.

The princess went to live in another kingdom, where she made a living working as a cook in that king's castle. The king's son fell in love with her cooking and asked her to marry him. Her father attended the wedding without knowing who the bride was.

For the wedding dinner, she prepared for her father only foods made with sugar and honey, and ordered that no salt or water be served to him. All the guests enjoyed the feast, but the princess’s father could hardly eat, and soon started feeling ill.

The princess came to him and said, 'I still love you as much as salt and water'.
