Rules and dates for the 9th escChat.com Song Contest

  1. jw HI. I'M ADAM SCOTT.

    Hello,

Here are the rules and key dates for the 9th escChat.com Song Contest, outlining how the semi-final and final shows will work and the relevant dates.

Songs cannot be Eurovision Song Contest or Junior Eurovision Song Contest songs, nor may they be songs that have taken part in national finals or were planned to take part in national finals. This includes any variants, covers, different versions of any such song.

However, songs can be by artists that have taken part in the Eurovision Song Contest or any such national finals, as long as the song itself was not part of such a show.

You can send a song from anywhere in the world. If two people submit the same song or two people enter songs by the same artist, the person who submitted it first wins the rights to that song.

To take part you need to email a song (that complies with the rules) to [email protected] with the following information:

    - Name of country
    - Title of song
    - Name of performer of song
    - Link to a video the song (YouTube preferred)
    - If you have not participated before, also include a picture of your country's flag.

Don't tell anybody what you've chosen! The deadline for song submission is Sunday, 20th September 2009.

You may promote your song in the promo thread but please do not give away the name of the artist or the song.

The top 10 participants of the last contest automatically qualify for the final of this contest. They are:

    Furnyland
    Barborderlos
    Sheepmark
    Lusitânia
    Nova Nova Scotia
    Fireflance
    MILKlands
    Hexelbourg
    Hatican City
    Andropia

The other remaining participants enter a semi-final. Participants in the semi-final must vote in the semi-final or will be disqualified. The participants who directly qualify for the final may vote in the semi-final if they wish, but this is not compulsory.

14 songs from the semi-final will pass to the grand final along with the automatic qualifiers from the previous contest. All participants in the final must vote in the final. Failure to do so will result in disqualification. Failed semi-finalists may also vote in the final if they choose, but this is not compulsory.

If a song is disqualified in either the semi-final or final, the points allocation of any country awarding points to the disqualified country will be adjusted accordingly; e.g. if Country B is disqualified and Country A gives 8pts to Country B then the song originally getting 7pts from Country A will get 8pts instead, with the 6pts song being awarded 7pts etc, and the song ranked in 11th place will receive the 1pt). This procedure will be exhaustively repeated for all disqualified entries.

All songs will be revealed on Monday, 21st September 2009. The songs of the semifinalists will be available in one player, and the songs from the automatic qualifiers will be available in another player. This is so people who want to listen to all the songs in one session can do so, and so people who only want to listen to thes semi-final songs also have that option. Voting will open on the same day for the semi-final and will close at 6pm UK time on Saturday, 26th September 2009. The list of qualifying participants will be revealed at 9:30pm on that night in random order in a magic button style video. The number of points and placings for each semi-finalist will not be revealed at that time.

Upon revealing the qualifying participants, their songs will be added to the finalist player and voting will open for the final from 9pm. Voting for the final will close at 6pm on Wednesday, 30th September 2009 and the results show will be broadcast live as usual on Saturday, 3rd October 2009 at the later time of 9:30pm UK. Upon the conclusion of the grand final, the full results of the semi-final will be published.

The list of any disqualified participants will be revealed as soon as the voting window closes.

Anybody wanting to send an audio or video vote clip must send it to [email protected] no later than Thursday, 1st October 2009. As there will only be a results show for the final, please only send a clip of your final votes and not your semi-final votes.

Only people who have submitted songs can vote! The winner organises the submission of songs for the next contest and will provide input for the overall production of the show.

    Good luck, have fun!

Btw the current number of participants looks like 29, if that doesn't increase by the final date, (bearing in mind that means less participants than last time) will there still be a semi?
  3. jw HI. I'M ADAM SCOTT.

Yes. The limit was <=24 to avoid a semi... but with probable entries from Stewart, Patte, Almila, Ceylan and Jarek the number will almost certainly rise from 29 anyway :D
