The British national broadcaster, BBC, has announced the date of the Semi-final Allocation Draw, Eurovision Handover Ceremony, and the reveal of this year’s theme and slogan; all of these will be made public on January 31st 2023, 20:00 CET.
Semi-final allocation Draw and Handover Ceremony
The semi-final Allocation draw and Handover Ceremony will be hosted by TV presenter and Eurovision results announcer, A.J. Odudu, and Rylan, the British commentator of the Semi-finals since 2018. Next to these two presenters, there will be people from a local Liverpool school and members of the Ukrainian community to help both A.J. and Rylan. The handover Ceremony, also known as the “Host City Insignia Ceremony”, will be done together with the Mayor of Liverpool, Joanne Anderson, and the Mayor of Mayor of Turin, Stefano Lo Russo.
The theme and slogan of the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest will also be revealed on this date.
The Semi-final Allocation Draw
Annually the Semi-final Allocation Draw consists of two parts, which are:
- Part 1: Getting to know in which of the Semi-finals the Big 5 and last year’s winner, Ukraine, can vote, and the allocation of the pre-qualified countries in the Grand Final, in this case Italy, France, Spain, Germany, United Kingdom, and this year’s winner, Ukraine.
- Part 2: Is dedicated to the allocation draw of the remaining 31 countries; they will get to know in which of the two Semi-finals they are going to be, and in what half of their respective Semi-final.
The producers of the live shows eventually decide the running order as to avoid, for example, a certain number of ballads after each other.
Eurovision 2023
The Eurovision Song Contest 2023 will take place in the British city of Liverpool on May 9th, 11th, and 13th 2023. The contest of 2022 was won by Ukraine, but because of the ongoing war with Russia in this country, the EBU has decided for a remote solution, which meant that the UK will step in to organize the world’s biggest music event. The win of Ukraine will be reflected in the contest and its organization.
