14:41:42 Janet: yesterday my laptop crashed and it said i needed to restart my computer. the bright sparks at apple didn't include a restart button on the laptop so i had to wait for the battery to run out as i couldn't restart normally because of the crash. that's why i wasn't online at all yesterday

Apologies for taking so long to get back to you on this. There have actually been several isolated incidents including some DDoS causing connectivity problems. We have been working with our suppliers to get these resolved.

The latest incidents were eventually tracked down to a faulty interface on a router in London. The interface was coming up for about 10 minutes, advertising a small number of routes before dropping off. As only a few routes were advertised it was very hard for our upstream suppliers to nail this issue down as it didn't affect a great majority. The bad interface has since been shut down which seems to have brought back some stability.

As you know the network up in Newcastle hasn't been great lately. A new 10gbit private circuit to London should be online shortly which will vastly improve things. This has been on-order for a long time now but as with almost every supplier the lead time is extremely long.
