UK 2017

  1. sokrates1988 I HATE EUROVISION

Well after all the hype and talk what do we get ? 6 of the worst songs ever dominated by x factor rejects. Just like last year its all the same safe dull samey styles of songs no variety no fun bouncy stuff etc, all sung by youngsters. So much for the BBC taking it seriously again. If i had to pick one id go with the first one freedom hearts. Good old ogae have done the uk proud again with this selection. roll on 2018 :)

I don't think they're bad but nothing special, yes.
I like Freedom Hearts and What Are We Made Of a little more but they're all decent.
  3. sokrates1988 I HATE EUROVISION

its the lack of variety in the songs what annoys me most just like last year
  4. Julio STRANGLES

    My ranking

1 - Olivia Garcia - Freedom Hearts (I like this one)
2 - Holly Brewer - I Wish I Loved You More (this is rather meh)
    3 - Selena Mastroianni - I Don't Wanna Fight (not my style)
4 - Nate Simpson - What Are We Made Of (bland)
5 - Lucie Jones - Never Give Up On You (bland)
6 - Danyl Johnson - Light Up The World (this sounds out of tune even in the studio)

Basically I only like one and chances are it won't win. I can see the UK sadly on the bottom 5 with most of these songs and chances are the Emmelie song will win which is regrettable as I find the song extremely dull.
  5. Genesis2703 Pointless

Based off of my first listen:

1 - Olivia Garcia - Freedom Hearts (lyrics a tad dodgy but it's agreeable)
2 - Lucie Jones - Never Give Up On You (type of thing I like but no one else does)
3 - Holly Brewer - I Wish I Loved You More (a bit dated but okay)
4 - Selena Mastroianni - I Don't Wanna Fight (the lyrics kill this song which is sad)
5 - Nate Simpson - What Are We Made Of (no issue with this but meh)
6 - Danyl Johnson - Light Up The World (absolutely horrible)

It's like 1~2>3>4>5>>>>>>>>>>6 for me at the moment. I feel like Lucie could do decently with the juries if it was spot on live and the staging was really classy. Realistically though I can't see the UK not being in the bottom 5 this year :(

    1. Olivia Garcia - Freedom Hearts (I like it, the instrumentation is nice)
    2. Salena Mastroianni - I Don't Wanna Fight (repetitive)
    3. Holly Brewer - I Wish I Loved You More (bit cliché and dated, but alright)
    4. Danyl Johnson - Light Up the World (it's got elements of a decent song, but there's just so much that went wrong)
    5. Nate Simpson - What Are We Made Of (dated and forgettable)
    6. Lucie Jones - Never Give Up on You (it's so shouty)
I started with Olivia and I had hope, but it all went downhill from there.

TIME for the official ranking this end:

    1 = 2 = 3 = 4 = 5 = 6 = all shit.

    1 Salena
    2 Danyl
    3 Lucie
    4 Olivia
    5 Holly
    6 Nate
  10. Merjan BOSOPOFO ELSIE

The lyrics to all of them are a bit dodgy and kill them. It's as if we employed Vladimir Putin to write our Eurovision songs :nope:

I suppose it goes without saying that I prefer both of the male singers to the Wailing Women and that Milton prefers that dreadful, dreadful ROW that the Danes have foisted on us from a great height. If I ever hear that again it will be too soon.

You really needed to bring maths into this didn't you.

  12. NickEmpel BURGER AND FRIES

I'm a bit confused, was already before I started listening. Twitter and Facebook said the songs were contemporary, interesting and above the standard they had expected. Two hours later, it had all gone down the gutter apparently.
After listening, it's easy to say that it's hard to really feel anything with these songs. There's no real risk, there are no winners. In the current format, middle of the road will get you bottom of the board. I'm worried for the BBC's result once more.
    1. Olivia Garcia - Freedom Hearts
I'm worried here. It's an anthemic song, but those are hard to stage (Hi there, Molly). They need to make this big, not like they did with Molly. And she needs to deliver a perfect vocal performance. A clear favourite though, although I keep wondering what Freedom Hearts are.
    2. Holly Brewer - I Wish I Loved You More
Dated, that's for sure, but it's listenable and I wouldn't mind hearing this again. The lyrics are a tad on the slutty side, so let's hope they tone the performance down a little.
    3. Lucie Jones - Never Give Up On You
There's potential here and a good amount of it. But the song never really gets going. Build in that little extra and it could be quite interesting.
    4. Nate Simpson - What Are We Made Of
With a bit of revamp you could actually make this work, it just needs to be bigger than this. The key change isn't done too well either.
    5. Salena Mastroianni - I Don't Wanna Fight
It's catchy, but it takes itself so serious. I don't. Her voice is quite something. Nails on a chalkboard for example. This could be a horrendous crash on our ears when she does this live.
    6. Danyl Johnson - Light Up The World
The first thirty seconds made me wonder why everyone was so negative about this - I quite liked the anthemic start. Then I got it. This song is impossible to stage, those lyrics make no sense and the melody doesn't quite know what it wants to be.

Shame the song isn't up to her voice - I still will say, time after time, that it sounds like it was meant to have an uptempo part? Like, bring in some drums and violins in the final chorus or something, give it lift.

    I'll risk a prediction...10-15 in the final.
  19. Genesis2703 Pointless

I sadly was busy last night so didn't get to watch this live hence I didn't get to vote either :(

Has anyone confirmed/denied whether the song is allowed to be revamped at all? I do feel like just a little more oomph would make it vastly better... she was really good live but the track just let her down.
  20. Merjan BOSOPOFO ELSIE

Which will hopefully drown her out so we don't have to listen to her constant bawling.
