Slovakia – As the German blog eurofire reports Slovakia has not yet decided whether it will send a song to Germany in 2011. Denisa Dzunková, head of international relations at the Slovakian television, confirmed, that the decision will be taken internally at the end of the summer. Dzunková expressed her personal opinion, saying she hopes they will participate again. Slovakia is one of the least successful countries in Eurovision history. After a 11-year hiatus they returned last year and came second to last in 2009 and 2010 in their respective semifinals. We will thus know later this summer, whether this continuous lack of success will lead to a Slovakian withdrawal. Their neighbours and longtime country buddies (Czechoslovakia) the Czech Republic already withdrew this year after equally disappointing results in the semifinals.
Bulgaria – According to rumors Philipp Kirkorow, the well-known and very popular Bulgarian songwriter has offered the Bulgarian television BNT his help as a songwriter for the Bulgarian song for 2011. He would write 3 songs that would be presented in a National Final where the Bulgarian public could vote for their favourite. Kirkorow has already achieved very good results for Ani Lorak (Ukraine) and Dimitry Koldun (Belarus) in the Eurovision Song Contest. Kirkorwo was born in Varna on the Black Sea. 2011 would be the first time that he enters a song for his own country.
