That's all I have to say
PARIS 2013 QF
yay 4 Anggun.
ew 4 France.
For those who are interested, I have translated the original article from Le Parisien:
EMMANUEL MAROLLE | Published 29.11.2011, 07h47 | Le Parisien
The 37 year old, whose breakthrough came 15 years ago with her hit “The Snow on The Sahara”, has been chosen to represent France at the next edition of the Eurovision Song Contest.
The decision hasn’t been drawn out. France 3 already knows who will represent France at Eurovision 2012 which will take place on May 26th in Baku, Azerbaijan. The choice, which was revealed to us yesterday, is the beautiful Anggun. “To tell the truth, we’ve been thinking of her for a long time” Marie-Claire Mezerette, director of entertainment for the channel, confided in us. “We even hesitated last year between her and Amaury Vassili”
However, preference was given to the young tenor, who finished 15th in the 2010 [sic] edition. Even more reason to select, this time, the beautiful 37 year old singer of Indonesian origin, who shines throughout the world. “Her first album sold more than 1.5M copies abroad and all the others have been certified gold or platinum,” highlights Antoine Gouiffes-Yan, marketing director at her record label, Warner. “Her major attribute is her exportability.”
Although her 5th album, “Echoes” has just been released in France, the singer, who broke through in 1997 with her hit “Snow on the Sahara”, is regularly invited to appear on many programmes in Italy, Russia and Portugal. “If we want to win, we need a candidate that appeals to many countries” points out Marie-Claire Mezerette. “Anggun is a popular artist and not just in France. Furthermore, she undertakes significant humanitarian work (such as her role as goodwill ambassador for the Food and agriculture organisation of the United Nation.) She exudes a real kindness.
“It’s truly a huge honour” Anggun told us yesterday by telephone from Singapore. “It’s a beautiful gift for me, being of Indonesian origin and naturalised French since 2000. It symbolises the France of today, hybrid, made up of many cultures. Your country has given me a beautiful language, a beautiful identity. I live in Paris, I’m married to a Frenchman and my daughter, Kirana, is French and she is as comfortable eating rice as she is cheese.”
Notwithstanding what has gone before and the humiliation of successive French candidates, Anggun is preparing for the event. “Here, we have this image of the contest from the 1970s and 1980s, a bit dated, and yet, it’s a super, American style show, which is very important for so many countries. I see it when I go to Eastern Europe. Notably, they have spoken to me a lot over there about Patricia Kaas’ performance in 2009. Secretly, we all want to win. Personally, I’m going to let France shine.”
All that remains is the song, which must be previously unreleased [before September 1st]. The record company is currently working on it with the hope of presenting it to the public as early as January and hopes to finally bring the contest back to France, 35 years after Marie Myriam, France’s unsurpassable last winner.
I'd also like to highlight what I said in my promo when I sent Mimpi. Anggun is one of the most humble people I have ever seen interviewed. She has a talent, and she recognises this and feels a duty to share it. When she says that this is an honour for her, you can take it as read that she trully means this.
At first I thought she would use a song from her album as she recorded Echos and the English version Echoes, but Echoes was released in Indonesia back in April so unless the French version of the album has some songs that aren't on the English one then they'll have to write a new song for her.
P.S. Yay Anggun

Snipet is available http://www.amazon.fr/dp/B0071WXE1M/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_HRvipb00E6ZTW and yes i agree this time: FRANCE FTW
Snippet IS a demo, I asked some French people to verify the following press release and they say it's true:
WARNER MUSIC PRESS RELEASE –
Warner Music France deeply regrets the leak of un-finished audio material of the song ‘Echo (You and I)’ performed by Anggun. The final version of the song will be previewed in its entirety (2’59) on Jan. 29 during the Midday. The track will then be available for listening on france3.fr website starting 4pm French time.
I don't buy that at all. It wasn't a leak, it was the preview excerpt on mp3 download sites to hear before you buy. Amazon et al wouldn't have a "demo".
Amazon are making a habit of this. Jedward last year, Anggun this year
And I told you the 30 second clip wasn't a demo
I wonder why is everything reminding me of Horehronie right now.
I don't love it,
but I don't dislike it either.
The song is nice, but nothing special imo
