Introducing Stokkanslandet

  1. CTP Jass hater

As we have decided to enter this years ESCCSC, we have decided to tell you a little more about our country. Alas poor Yorrick, due to time constraints, laziness, procrastination and even a small degree of busyness, Stokkanslåndet didn't have a public final this time, but if we continue our participation, we may well in the future. This years choice has already raised some concerns amongst the public, as the entry isn't a Stokkanslanderer.

Country: Stokkanslåndet (officially Replubik i Støkkanslåndet).
    Population: 200,000
    Capital City: Brandenburgerstadt
Language(s): Norwengelsk (large numbers of Norwegian speakers) Australian English.
Industry: Most GDP derived through selling snow and ice to the less privileged countries (those without naturally occurring snow) and tourism.
    National Anthem: Romeo
    Prime Minister: Nakkots Litek.
    Climate: Fookin’ cold.
Flag: the Blåurøndenflåggen is the only round country flag in the world. It is a blue holographic disc, which, as the flag flutters in the breeze, changes its shade of blue. The disc represents the importance the blue sky, and blue sea, play in the lives of the country’s people.

Independence: Stokkanslandet declared independence from Norway on April 30, 2009. Stokkanslandet takes in parts of North Norway (the bits with no oil - Norway wouldn't let us have those).

Media: 2 TV channels. National broadcaster is TVSKL, which intends to become an EBU member and and the government has expressed a desire to beat Liechtenstein into the Eurovision Song Contest. The main daily newspaper is the Stokkansdagly, which has a daily circulation of about 30.

Transport is provided by an efficient public transport system. Cars are not encouraged, and are taxed heavily. In an effort to encourage tourism, tourists are given free bicycles to use for their time in Stokkanslåndet. Plastic bags are banned.

    Public relations:
Stokkanslandet has arrangements with Norway and Iceland, Australia, Liechtenstein and Luxembourg on a number of issues. No visa is required to travel between these countries. The government provides free daily flights to Oslo and Reykjavik via the government owned Stokkair. The countries two main airports are at Tromso (to be renamed) and Alta - Boka, in the north. Travel between Stokkanslåndet and countries that do not recognise it is currently not possible. And to the countries that don’t recognise us, @#%$ you! (You know who you are!).
  2. The Kingdom of Sheepmark wishes to establish diplomatic relations with your country :) Like you, we too know the ecstasy and joy in gaining independence from Norway!!!

Also we wish to express our amusement at the classification of your climate and the names of your airports :D We shall schedule international flights soon so you will be able to enjoy our car-less, husky and reindeer filled roads and the national sport of puffin fishing! :D

We would be honoured to establish relations with your fine country, and look forward to hosting you in the royal suite of the Brandenburgerstadtslottethager. Though we express concern at puffin fishing, and suggest fishing for compliments as a more sustainable industry.

Since publishing that article, we can reveal more about our country - the Tromso airport has been renamed the Dronning Zebu lufthavn.

Our military has also begun training. While we are a peace loving folk... we have felt that we do need to make sure we have adequate protection. As such, we now have two guys and a potato gun. We have a military agreement with Norway that they will lend us 3 guns in an emergency. Iceland has offered 3 knives, but due to the global financial crisis, have scaled that back to 2.

The national sport of our country is... nothing. We have better things to do with our time. But there is a thriving local theatre and performing arts sector. With many traditional cafe's and restaurants, and much live music and general merriment to be had. One of the major cultural centres in the Octofirkatenplaza in the capital (an 8-sided diamond shaped plaza).

The national anthem has changed to Brandenburgerstadt Tor:
    Chorus:
    Her står vi på Brandenburgerstadt
Hånd i hånd som om det va' i går
    Du og æ på Brandenburgerstadt
    Vi ser Brandenburgerstadt
    Ja, vi ser Brandenburgerstadt
