CHAPULHUACANITO, May 30 (MASPRESS): After several weeks of rumors and speculations, it seems that Masiosare has officially applied to participate in the 23rd edition of the ESCchat Song Contest.

After a successful fundraising event to apply for the country’s participation in the contest, Maurilia Jonguitud, CEO of MasRTV, the local broadcaster for Masiosare, has given the news that the official application to be part of the contest has been submitted. “After several weeks of negotiations and thanks to this success [the fundraising event], we have officially made public our interest in participating in the next edition of the ESCchat Song Contest. We are now waiting for an answer… a welcoming answer, preferably, because we know that Masiosare has a lot to give”, she says.

“Being part of the ESCChat Song Contest doesn’t only means sharing our cultural heritage, our music, our beliefs and our messages to the rest of the world… but also embracing them [other sorts of heritage, music, beliefs and messages] and it is thanks to this share of culture and ideas that we can grow and progress”, Maurilia added.

In addition to the pending approval, Mrs. Jonguitud was asked if there are any musicians already interested in representing Masiosare for the first time at the ESCchat Song Contest. “That’s too early to comment. We still have to wait to be accepted first. Let’s take one step at a time”.

    INTERNAL SELECTION OR NATIONAL FINALS?

Masiosare seems anxious to participate in the ESCchat Song Contest. Nevertheless, there are still some concerns about how the representative will be chosen. Will it be an internal selection or will it be open to the Masiosarian people?

Pedro Espejel, chairman of MasRTV, accepted that the broadcaster is open to both options. “MasRTV has not yet decided which format will be used to select our first national representative for the ESCchat Song Contest. Both are great options and both have their pros and cons”.

“Having an internal selection saves MasRTV a lot of money, but it means that we can’t measure with the Masiosarian people if the representative is good enough or not for ESCchat”, he added. “On the other hand, if we make National Selections, we may end up with a great performer to represent us, but without enough money for promotion and supporting. Both options are still being studied and we hope to have an answer just as soon as we receive the approval for participating in the next edition [of the ESCchat Song Contest]”.

    ENGLISH OR SPANISH?

Another doubt that has been growing is if Masiosare will send a song in Spanish or in any other language.

“The main reason for joining the ESCchat Song Contest is to share our culture and to let the world know who we are, and also to get to know the others. But if we want the world to get to know our culture, I believe we must send our songs in Spanish”, added Mr. Espejel.

However, he didn’t reject the idea of English songs. “I’m not saying that we’ll only send songs in Spanish. I mean, first and foremost we have to see if we are accepted for participating in the contest, then we’ll decide if we’ll have an Internal or a National Selection, and until then we’ll be able to decide if we want only songs in Spanish or English or both. We’ll have to see what works best for us in ESCchat Song Contest. After all, this is a contest and we’d like to win”.

In the past 22 editions, only 3 songs have won in a language other than English. The first one was “Die Suche” by Jan Sievers representing Eigerland in edition 14 in Nova Nova Scotia; followed right in the next edition by Thomas Holm’s “Nitten” who represented Sheepmark. The most recent non-English winner was Grégoire with “Toi + Moi” representing Il Regno d’Italofilia in the 19th edition in Krislinn, Kristonia.

    POTENTIAL CANDIDATES FOR MASIOSARE

As soon as the news spread through national media and newspaper about Masiosare’s willingness to participate in the 23rd edition of the ESCchat Song Contest, some artists rapidly decided to support the idea and even announce publicly that they wish to represent Masiosare in their first ever participation.

Among them was young artist Belinda. “I’d love to go back to ESCchat Song Contest. It is a big platform to get people to know you and your music; and if MasRTV asks me to represent them, then I’ll be there again!”. Belinda already participated in ESCchat Song Contest along with Pitbull representing Forza with their song “Egoísta” in he 17th editon in Majika, Violet Passport. Though she ended last place.

Los Tigres del Norte also showed interest in representing Masiosare for the first time. “Our music is widely known in the country and it’s a big opportunity for us to reach other audiences through the contest”.

Alejandra Guzmán, the famous rocker, also mentioned on her Twitter account: "only one step away from joining the escchat song contest. Yay! #goforit ".
