I'm really not happy about this, why should they get that sort of privilege after over 10 years of sitting on the sidelines being sore losers? That place should clearly be going to Sweden.
I MIND IT!!!!!!!!!! wtf for me russia could have that spot theyd easily be the BiG 1 itself, but italy who returns after years of saying "thx but f off" gets a final place? The esc could was very well financed with a big 4, too! and what is worse: without italy we would have had only 24 countries in the final but WITH italy we WILL have only 24 countries in the final everytime a nonBIG5country wins, which means italy comes, 2 countries more stuck in the semi! for ITALY goddam, who are they, i hope they FAIL big time. and san marino ass likers too there are too many countires which CARE about esc actually... poor them
Belgium has 30 songs in its preselection so it will have a semifinal at the end of the month. 14 songs will advance to the final in February. P.S. I've also gotten word that Tim, aka fake James will be singing there too with Custo. ;D
You guys gotta realise that the BIG 5 doesn't only pay for the annual contests, they pay for EVERYTHING the EBU channels broadcast, from talk shows to sports events. That means, despite Italy being absent for almost a decade from the contest - they've still kept their membership and covered other EBU related broadcasting costs. Since EBU only judge based on economic contribution, it's Holland who should recieve a potetional additional wildcard, not Russia.
Austria had over 300 songs and now it's down to 30 for the next stage. Most are in English. http://eurovisiontimes.wordpress.com/2011/01/02/austria-30-names-for-the-next-round/#more-3490

There was talk about having a national final in 2011 ahead of the original idea of having one in 2012, but because of France's station getting a new board and not enough time for the setup, the country will have another internal selection. There is still interest in having a 2012 national final, the first since 2007. Since there is talk of a 2012 national final, in a way that means France is the first country to say it's going to be at that contest. Good luck.
