Republic of Sheepmark

  1. Ladies and gentlemen,

You cannot help but have noticed that you are still none the wiser as to the little details of my country Sheepmark, and I must inform you before you read any further, that I have still not written it. This is the explanation :D:

Since the inaugural event in 2003, Sheepmark and Kristonia have always held a massive festival of music ("The Heart of Life") in the final week of summer - generally the last week of August or the first week of September. It occurs every three years and responsibility for hosting falls alternatively between the two countries (Sheepmark hosting in 2003 and Kristonia hosting in 2006). It commemorates an ancient event celebrated by our ancestors but is now hosted in the spirit of appreciating great artists and composers (the two nations are two of the most fanatical about music in all of Avalon) and as a labour of love between the two neighbouring lands. :)

This year, hosting once again falls upon the broadcaster of Sheepmark and planning has been underway since the start of last year. It takes a great deal of time, energy and effort to rig up all the lighting, LED screens, SFX and of course to check the acoustics of the venue. Much like during ancient times, the festival is hosted in the city of Ráhkisvuohta which is in Sheepmark but so close to the border, it is considered shared land. The venue is the National Open Air Festival Ground (pictured below).

The venue has been known to hold up to 100,000 people at one time

The programme of events is as follows:
Sunday 30th August 2009: The Opening Ceremony
Monday 31st August 2009: The festival of Dance
Tuesday 1st September 2009: The festival of Theatre & Cinema
Wednesday 2nd September 2009: The festival of Classical Music
Thursday 3rd September 2009: The festival of Choirs & Voice
Friday 4th September 2009: The festival of Music & Closing Ceremony

The festivals on Monday through Thursday are broadcast solely in Kristonia and Sheepmark (in Kristonian and Sápmi respectively) whilst the Opening & Closing ceremonies as well as the festival of Music (which can last until the early hours of the Saturday morning) are broadcast internationally over Avalon in English and are some of the most watched programs on the continent - especially in the native countries where not even the contest garners higher ratings.

So you see, we here in Sheepmark have been very busy indeed ;)

Details on my country to follow soon in the next post...

p.s. an interesting fact about Sheepmark to keep you interested/bothered. Our number one export is not wool or other sheep-related products but energy. Through hydro-electric, wind, solar, geo-thermal and tidal power, Sheepmark has become completely self-sufficient in meeting it's population's energy demands. An excess of over 700% is produced annually and so, we export this to the rest of the nations of Avalon, the majority going to power the energy-hungry Furnyland and it's imperious nuclear program. As a result there is a Sávza-Furny non-aggression pact but there have been accusations that Sheepmark's export patterns will inevitably lead to the downfall of the continent and supreme Furny leadership being exacted over all the land - so far, we have yet to see any evidence of this, and so kindly ask any of the whining countries to kindly shut it :)
  2. Jonny Ginger Tory Witch

Due to government policy none of the events of this will be broadcast in Black Daisystan :P Any broadcasting of foreign material is defined as tactical propaganda and will pollute the minds of our Black Daisies :D (In other words, the government don't want them seeing anything of the outside world!!)
  3. That stadium is very impressive  The citizens of The State of the Ark are music-loving people and the events will be broadcast in SA :D

The invitation to the ROCK OUT festival in Rock City on 23rd August is still on. The Rock City Wankers will perform featuring our king himself :P

  4. As you all saw last night during the voting, Sheepmark has a new flag, designed by moi and made real by my new hero Kots. He has been awarded one of the highest orders of Sheepmark for his work and the import tax on Sheepmark wool, meat and textiles will be lifted for Fireflance! Here is the flag in full...

  5. That sheep is so cute ;) Great flag too :)
