Just to add to this conversation, whenever has a winner not gained some sort of controversy because of the simplicity of 'I don't like the winner, boo boo hiss, etc.' ? Sweden is the case of 'Don't fix what ain't broken' as they took what worked, updated it and perfected it. Also, you keep saying 'Mans' this and 'Mans' that, Nessie - but what you're forgetting is that it's not up to Mans for what he accomplished, it's the Swedish broadcaster and most importantly, Christer Bjorkman - but to say that it's entirely plagiarised is a bit ridiculous because there's nothing completely unique about Eurovision.
Of course not, because the nature of those discussions was different. When Austria won last year, yes, there were discussions about why and how they won, however nobody questioned the legitimacy of their victory. This year, however, rightly or wrongly, a sizeable portion of fans are questioning the legitimacy of the system that allowed Sweden to win, and I understand why. Personally, I am fine with Sweden's victory. Everybody knew the rules going into the contest, I understand why the juries ranked Italy so low, I don't believe there was some conspiracy against Italy or Russia and, despite being indifferent towards the song, I have no problem with Heroes as a winner. Within the rules, however, there are shades of convincing and unconvincing, and Sweden failing to capture the televote - implicitly regarded by most fans and the EBU as the more important component of the voting process - makes it a less convincing winner, much in the same way that Azerbaijan was an unconvincing winner in 2011 due to its very poor score. I don't see why that can't be acknowledged.
But that's where the difference lies. This year the discussions are going beyond 'I don't like this as a winner' to 'Is the system that allowed this song to win justifiable?', and the fact that Sweden's victory has provoked those discussions taints it slightly (in my opinion, of course).
Måns and his team have openly admitted where they had their inspiration from and have credited and rewarded him. He's received more promotion now than he ever could have.
Televoters only voted for Italy to stop Sweden and Russia from winning. Sweden is the rightful winner and Russia is a good for 2nd place. Italy on the other side is a old-fashioned cliche love song that we have hears millions times before. A crap song.
What? This must be a joke Obviously, people in Russia wanted to stop....Russia from winning since Italy won the Russian televoting....hahaha
In that case it was to stop Sweden from winning. Look at the comments before ESC. Sweden has a great song but I don't want them to win. It's to early after 2012. I want to see another country to win. Comments like these we saw the time before the ESC. Even last year people said how happy they are that Sweden didn't win again after Sanna's 3rd place. It's pretty obvious people wanted to see ESC in Roma next year. Not another win for Sweden.
I agree sweden winning yet again is just boring and if denmark repeat what happened before and win next year we might as well all pack up
But Eastern an Southern Europe winning 7 times in 2001-2008 when it was only televoting was ok for you??? Some countries will withdraw with only televoting too. Western Europe would be screwed with only televoting. Many people complained about the televoting too. But what else to expect from a person from Eastern/Southern? you know some countries benefits too much from televoting.
i didnt like that dominance either but scandinavia winning so often is just as boring and uninteresting, id have 100% juries a language rule and an orchestra back and make the contest great once again
Actually I agree. But remember Sweden and Scandinavia don't always do this good. In 2013 Sweden was only 14th. This year Denmark, Iceland and Finland didn't even make the final. My point is that it is up and down for every country. I'm pretty sure Scandinavia will have a bad period again and other countries will soon take over. But still people shouldn't vote against a country only because it won few years ago. Sweden 2015 has nothing to do with 2012. I agree with you about the changes except the language rules. I think it should be up to every country to decide which language they will sing in. Ireland and UK haven't won since the rules was changed. I think it is because with so many english songs today their advantage about people understand their songs are gone.
Really? I don't recall Germany being screwed when they WON televoting with Lena. I also don't recall the UK being screwed in televoting when they sent Blue and it was the JURIES who buried them. The fact that the west does lousy in televoting is a myth..because when they sent a song that people actually LIKED, they did just fine in televoting.
What are you talking about?? There were both juries and televoting in 2010. Eastern and Southern Europe won 7 times between 2001-2008. How is western doing bad with the televoting a myth then??so many people was tired and angry with the DOMINATION from the East and south. In 2007 all countries qualified to final. BTW, your precious Italy was helped by the juries 2011. Without juries they would have been 11th. Now they took the 2nd place instead for Sweden. Why I didn't hear complains about that? This is a part of the competition. Sometimes the country has juries with them, other years they don't. The same with the televoting.
Ohhh so it's ok to put Italy first and but not when they do it with Sweden??? So juries didn't put down Italy this year because it was crap?? Lol, once again the jealousy against Sweden is strong! If so I repeat myself: thank you juries for saving us from that crappy italian song this year.
Who is fighting?? Is it ok to bash Sweden but not do that against Italy as example?? What do you think will happen when people bash the winner?? That all oeopke will agree with it?? Lol!
