Italy wins

  1. Mina Member with a "past"

    Yes, It Does
  2. jw HI. I'M ADAM SCOTT.

In a different year, maybe. Past history shows the closer position is dreadful.
  3. NickEmpel BURGER AND FRIES

The last position is dreadful. After 26 entries, no one will be interested to hear an Italian popera song, after Albania, everyone will be out for a good hit of alcohol. Italy has just been professionally murdered by the producers.

qs. I'd probably be angry if I actually wanted the song to do well.

On the other hand the running order is an absolute godsend for Russia. If there's a threat to Sweden it's certainly not from Italy anymore.
  8. Mina Member with a "past"

Noted..but none of those was as strong as Italy is.
  9. jw HI. I'M ADAM SCOTT.

Finally, someone who agrees with me! Everyone else suggests it's too late for Russia but I think it's a perfect draw for them.

In other news, Mina gains an ex-friend because they don't. :baby:

I agree with mgf jw & Jonny - they got an excellent draw (although a slight bit too far into the night which I doubt some people will be still enthusiastic for the songs)

I wouldn't put Latvia, Georgia and Belgium just out of the race yet, either - 13 is right at the end of the first draw and 19 is what I call DE PIMP SLOT considering what dirge we have before it (Poland and Germany) with Georgia performing after Hungary to wake everyone up.

Although, I'm not saying they'll win - just that they have good spots that could further themselves into the top 12, top 10 or even top 5 in Belgium's case (who are now currently in 4th to win)

I agree on Russia having a very good draw...I just believe very much in Italy. I feel that once they sing, most songs before them will be forgotten...and that they'll win the jury vote...with Russia coming 2nd in that vote.

Despite climbing heavily in odds, I don't think Russia will be higher than no 4 in televoting. Estonia, Italy and Sweden will do better that them, I believe. It's a good ballad and a great voice but it IS a typical ballad, after all, and too many for people to choose from.

In any case, this will be one of the most interesting finals in years! I expect the top 3 to be very close and, maybe, we'll only know the winner after the last vote. Thrilling!

Oh, and I may believe in Italy but, frankly, I'd be happy with any of those 4 winning..for different reasons each. Or with a surprise like Belgium. Just, please, don't let it be Australia:(

So have we gone from "Italy wins" to "Italy or Estonia or Sweden or Russia wins"? o_O

Also, do keep in mind that since the introduction of the semis, a Big 5/6 country has only won once. Even then, Satellite was charting all over Europe by the time the contest rolled around and still won with a fairly unimpressive total in an uncompetitive year. Basically, I wouldn't underestimate the importance of performing twice.

Given that Grande Amore is currently failing to register outside of Italy's immediate neighbourhood, and that, despite the sea of shit we've had to wade through, this year has turned out quite competitive, I can't see how it's going to outperform countries that have already performed once and are charting more widely.*

*(Also I don't think Australia's chances of winning are much better for pretty much the same reason)

LOL..well, jj, I'm not a medium. Italy wins means I think it's going to win! It doesn't mean I know it's going to win! Can you ever really know in Eurovision?
  15. Mina Member with a "past"

The thing is, Jonny, that I remember many, many times when esc songs had been charting all around Europe but they didn't win..and, some times, they hadn't even made the top 10.
That's the magic of Eurovision, isn't it?
  16. jw HI. I'M ADAM SCOTT.

Was that not when it was decided by 100% jury though?
  17. Jonny Ginger Tory Witch

This is sort of true. I remember Believe wasn't charting prior to its win (or after :P), nor was Running Scared, but both of those songs, particularly the latter, benefitted massively from a support network that Italy doesn't have.

Also I'm pretty sure in both of those years nobody was really charting ... (I might be wrong)? I could envisage Italy winning if nobody was doing particularly well, but this year Sweden, Estonia, and Belgium are already racking up decent chart positions across the continent.
  18. jw HI. I'M ADAM SCOTT.

It scooped up all of Turkey's points after they failed to qualify, IIRC
  19. Jonny Ginger Tory Witch

    Well qs.

I was perusing the 2011 results the other day and it turns out Azerbaijan only received 3 sets of 12 points: Russia's, Turkey's, and Malta's. I am sorry but what a shit victory. :mal:
