Today we've seen the first signs of how the BBC is selecting for Copenhagen. Wiwibloggs (I'm sure some of you know them) followed a band, UKR, who were hoping to represent the UK in Copenhagen. They got a rejection letter today in which the criteria for the UK act were cited: Instant appeal Memorable hooks (whatever that may be...) Live vocal impact How the song builds No clue on who it actually may be. We know a lot of artists sent songs to the BBC, but they might as well just have called someone...
I really hope they came up with the criteria this year and didn't think 2012 and 2013 fit into that list
I've decided to make a list of all rumours, like I did last year. I'll edit the list as often as necessary. Paloma Faith Katy B Josh James (= Josh Dubovie) Boy George Honeyz Emeli Sandé Lulu Snow Patrol Tricia Penrose Stacey Solomon Gary Barlow Alexandra Burke Jade Ewen Jessie J Petula Clark Geri Halliwell Scissor Sisters Jane McDonald James Arthur Shirley Bassey N-Dubz Cilla Black Nina Nesbitt Oasis Alvin Stardust Rolf Harris (HLO Chris) Leon Jackson Matt Cardle Rhydian Roberts Aiden Grimshaw A complete nobody
I think either Paloma or Katy B would be interesting choices, and Jessie J could be good, but I'd be unhappy with any of the others
Latest rumour is Alvin Stardust. That would really fit the picture we have, wouldn't it? A has-been with no hits since 1700, will get people to tune in and has nothing to lose by doing Eurovision. Besides that, his official website shows that his concerts take a break after 26 April and only start again in June. Oh and he's working on new material...
Im sure Alvin didnt have a hit as recent as 5pm Today seriously though i loved his song for europe in 1985 and a few of his other songs. Thing is the BBC know they will never win again even when they send big names like Blue so you can see why they seem to not care about who we send.
So Monday it is! We'll hear it at 19:25 UK Time on a BBC Red Button channel (?) in a show hosted by Scott Mills. It's likely though that the BBC will be stupid again and let the papers know to prepare a story on Sunday evening...
