My last one for this year as I believe tonight we count the score (1st semi tomorrow etc) is...............grrrrrrrrrrr....Austria.
Right, time to close this game, I think. It wasn't quite as long as last year's so there were fewer points to give, but it's alright, we have a result. In case of ties, I used the same tie-breaker as last year, i.e. days since last point. This means that if country A has 5 points and got its 5th point yesterday, and country B has five points but got its 5th today, country A wins as it got the 5th point 1st. Last year this worked to decide in a three-way tie, but this year there is also a little conundrum. The full result: As can be seen, Azerbaijan and Macedonia are even and both got their 14th point yesterday, so the tie-breaker wasn't enough. I decided to take the tie-breaker to the next level and see which one was voted for last, which would work against them. Yesterday Macedonia lead 13-12, Azerbaijan then got points from genesis and dennis, and lastly macedonia got a point from nick. This according to my arbitrary tie-breaker means Macedonia got its 14th point last and therefore loses. There were a few other ties I couldn't be bothered to solve. Azerbaijan wins and Moldova is last. I was curious whether Moldova might end up with 0, but rua gave it a point some days ago. Ukraine's 22-day wait (can be seen as the decimals behind their point count) is the longest any country had to wait for a point in the game. Now, if we were to pretend this was the actual result, the semi finals would look like this: And the final is like this: That's Azerbaijan winning and a 9-way tie for last place. UK was in the last place in the final for a long time and only got a few points recently to catch up with the others. Still, as the last point came on the last day, they lose out. It may be interesting to see how this agrees with the actual result, but it's safe to say that the correlation will be very low. Lastly, out of interest, here are the number of participations by each member: Not as many days as last year, of course. 4 remembered to check in every day, rua only forgot once (although he sneakily tried to make up for it). Thanks julio for initiating the game and finding the new random country site, and thank you excel.
