BAN THOSE JURIES! NOW!

    I can't believe it!!!

No, I can't. I just heard and I'm in shock!

Mina if I were you I'd feel rather vindicated right now. :D

To be honest I'm surprised this hasn't happened sooner, although I am surprised that it happened in this way. It'll be interesting to see whether the EBU keep the juries next year. If they do, it says we don't mind that the juries can sink the televoters' winner under the right circumstances, but if they don't, they're effectively saying that Sweden shouldn't have really won. Either way it's going to be TOTES AWKS.

Personally, I am quite okay with this result. Those are the rules and everybody knew them going into the contest. If this spurs a rule change then that's fine, but as it stands Sweden won fair and square.

    I do. For many reasons.

It's not about Italy. I do believe it was robbed, of course. But it is mostly because as you all know I NEVER wanted the juries back and I always believed that if a song touches the public, it can win televoting even if it is from...San Marino!

Also, I'm sickened at the jury voting this time around. I don't think that even the biggest haters of Italy can honestly say that that song deserved only 171 points :'(

PS Italy almost reached Rybak's levels in televoting so that's some comfort.

I read on a few sites that their jury rehearsal was a bit of a shambles, although that highlights the other issue of the juries and the public voting on two entirely separate performances.

I think the solution from here is to have the juries and the public vote on the same performance, and to reduce the juries' share of the vote to about 25-30%. As much as the juries don't really add anything in terms of results, you only need to re-watch the voting sequences from 2007 and 2008 to realise how predictable and tedious the voting had become. It's easy to forget that it was killing the contest, and the juries helped rectify that, so I still think they have a value in reducing its perceived predictability.

The perfect system doesn't exist and the system we currently have works, even if your favourite songs may suffer. That's all I'm going to say, because this endless jury debate you're out for every year is needless, useless and leads to nothing but people disagreeing and having to agree on disagreeing.
    Sweden was the winner, deal.

I quite agree - the previous combined voting system wouldn't have changed the winner but Italy and Russia would have switched places and austria and germany would have got points with france spain and uk coming last.

and to highlight why the "great european public" sometimes get it wrong - Albania in 9th on televote? seriously? she hit 1 note in a three minute song and even that 1 note was painful to listen to.

I think, without hearing the jury performances, it's impossible to reconcile the differences between the jury votes and the televotes. Put simply, in this day and age, there is no reason why the juries can't vote and return their verdicts within the same 15 minute voting window as the televoters on the actual night, rather than base their scores on a dress rehearsal that the public never gets to see.

Also, if the juries are anti-democratic, the fact that you can vote 20 times from the same phone is more so. I get that it brings in the $$$ but it's an utter joke.
  10. I don't have anything of value to add to what's been said, I am just completely agog at the splits, if anything I would've expected them to be the other way round.
  11. sokrates1988 I HATE EUROVISION

never thought id say this but wish last night was 100% Televoting :D
  12. I'm horrified,
I felt there was something strange about the result,
Italy is a much better song.
  13. CTP Jass hater

I have no problem with the outcome as it came about according to the rules.

I do think juries should vote on the same performance as we do and should be extended to 10-12 people. I would also like to see one vote per phone per song. So you can vote for multiple songs, just not multiple times for the same song.

These aren't related to the outcome this year - if you had asked me before I would still make the same suggestions.

I did not realise (just found out this morning) that Il Volo almost lost San Remo because of a really poor jury score. Granted popera is so 2010, but it's interesting that the song provokes complete antipathy amongst music professionals regardless of context.

I actually don't know why everybody's so excited from Italy's song this year. it's good but not a winning song...
I think Russia should have won this. But Sweden also had a good song.
  16. Mina Member with a "past"

Something that a friend suggested today is that the winner should always come from televoting alone (so that people's money would really count for something) and all the rest positions from the combined voting.

    What a shit suggestion.

The juries needs to stay. They just saved us from the worst winner of all time in Italy. What completely crap song that is.

The juries do what they are supposed to do: avoid the neighbour/diaspora voting as much they can.

People are so angry against the ESC juries. But that italian shit song scored poorly with the juries in San Remo too. Was that unfair too??? Italy as all countries agreed with the rules. So now when your fave didn't won EBU should change the rules again?? Ohh please. Juries is the orginal way to vote. Until 1998 there were no televoting at all. In other words you want to take away one of the most important parts of ESC history.

In 2000's when only televoting was used many people complained about the unfair voting for Eastern and Southern Europe because they have much bigger diasporas and many more Friends than western Europe. In other words, people weren't happy with only televoting either. That's why EBU put the juries back in ESC again. There will not be a voting system that all people will like. Some people will also always complain when their faves don't win no matter what voting system is in use. Most people who wants go back to only televoting are from Eastern och Southern Europe. I think that tells everything. You know that your country benefits from only televoting. That's why you use every lame excuse to want only televoting back. But it will never happen because if so then people will start to complain about diaspora and neighbour voting instead.

Also OP asked if it really can be anyone who thinks Italy deserves those low points from juries. YES, I think so. I actually think they got to many points from the juries. Italy was always in my bottom 5. This is my problem with OP. You act as no one should, would and could dislike the italian song. It's pretty arrogant and naive I think.

I wonder why no italian fans complained in 2011 when Italy was #11 in televoting. They was #2 overrall because the juries. Italy also won JESC only with juries help. Italian fans are the last ones that should complain about the juries.

THANK YOU FOR A GREAT JOB JURIES!!!!! See you next year in Sweden.

What a completely subjective comment that is.

On the rest of it, now tell us something we don't know (and who or what is OP?)
