#130 EXIT POLL

  1. Merjan BOSOPOFO ELSIE

Just a reminder that everyone is expected to contribute a question for the #130 Exit Poll.

Of course, there can be some generic questions (one of which must come from James) but it is nice to have some questions which relate to particular songs, so please be thinking about this when you are listening to the songs and looking at their titles/singers.

All questions must be sent to me here by 18:00 WIM on MONDAY 17th December to allow time for answers to be submitted. This means you will have to get a wriggle on with listening or at least perusing the songs. HFA if applicable.

    Enjoy!

Thank you to all those people who have submitted a question (or more) for this, the final exit poll and </ </ to all those of you who haven't bothered.

Certain ideas 'leapt off the page' so there are some themes which were taken up by more than one person. Although suggestions might not have been exactly the same, I have combined them to make one question; all people who contributed are credited with the question. The bog-standard questions didn't tend to get chosen, so I take all the credit for those <<

    So, heeere we go...
    1. Who will win?
    2. Who will carry the bog into perpetuity?
    3. The Battle of the Rivers: Which river will do better, Balunistan's River or Støkkanslåndet’s Black River? (Ana, Mina, Rua)
    4. Which non-English song will do best: Adesso Nevica; Anemodarména Ipsi; Ek kan Jou nie Keer; Ist da jemand; J'apprendrai; Rischiamo Tutto; Yuve Yuve Yu? (Teodor)
    5. Which colour will come out highest, black or white? (White Lion/When Children Cry; Wolf Gang/Black River; Dido/White Flag) (Ana)
    6. We have four weather-related entries: Anemodarména Ipsi (Wuthering Heights) = windy - Keti Garbi; Adesso Nevica (Now it's Snowing) - Daniele Gentile; Run in the Rain - Tom Grennan; Signal Fire - Snow Patrol. Please rank them from highest to lowest. (Rua, Ana)
    7. BOTA - Battle of the Abbreviations: Which abbreviated entry will finish highest: DMA's or NRG? (Rigmo)
    8. Sound System: Will The Sound of Silence (Flippy) or When the Children Cry (Nigaristan) be ranked higher? (Rua)
    9. Which Eurovision performer will do best, Keti Garbi (Greece 1993) or Olivia Newton-John (UK 1974)? (Sok, Merjan)
    10. How many different songs will be bogged? (Anette)
    11. Which returning artist will do worst: Amy MacDonald; Carrie Underwood; Daniele Gentile; Dido; Iron Maiden; Jack's Mannequin; Josh Groban; Mickael Miro; NRG; Snow Patrol; Tom Grennan; Wolf Gang? (If you would like to add Adel Tawil to the list, if you feel he will fare particularly badly, feel free as he has been in the contest in another guise.) (Ana)
    12. It is the last edition of the contest and some songs have lyrics that could be associated with its closure... Nigaristan's song says we will last forever, and SOTA's asks who will go till the very end with them. Jamoukovia's song admits it is the end and it hurts but they can't stop it. On the other hand, Villa Badia talks of a big ending. San Minino's song says they will learn to go away and will do so by our side in good and in bad times, while Riikvania is quite clear, saying they can feel the end. Eunecta says they have been running for such a long time they are ready to be released. IRDI looks on the bright side by telling us not to leave in anger or despair and not to worry as they are OK now. Balunistan tells us that we will grow stronger when we break, while Empelia says they will go down with this ship... Which of the aforementioned songs will do best and which will do worst? (Júlio)
    13. Over the 130 editions our nations have each developed their own distinctive styles and tastes. (i) Which nation stayed truest to its form with their last entry? Why? (ii) Which nation's entry surprised you most? Why? (Ronini)
    14. What is your best memory of the contest? (Ana)
Thanks also to Rigmo for my favourite, if not entirely serious, question, which might get an airing once the results are in. The question, alas, could not be used as both the question and possible answers might indicate a #vi :(

Once you have finalised your votes, please send your answers to these rip-roaring questions to me, in a private conversation here. ALL replies must be received by 21:00
WIM on Friday 21st December. NO late submissions will be accepted. This is the last

one, please make an effort :)

Thank you all for your participation.

    Hello,
I was to late to ask a question about the song contest. But i want to write something about my experience about the song contest for the short time in was in this contest. For me it was a lot of fun, i enjoined it every saturday. It was exciting to decover songs from other contestants, and also to find my own songs. It was a gamble for some songs how they will do it, end high or low. I was a few times in the top Ten.
A special thanks to JW for all the years he spended on this contest, his effort to make it every saturday an enjoiable event. THANKS JW

    Exit Poll #130

Which nation stayed truest to its form with their last entry? Why?

    Julio:
There are several I could go for, in the end i pick Yugosokia as Sok has been the most true to her style overall throughout the contest with few exceptions, despite knowing it isn't a style that usually brings points she still stayed true to it till the very end and that is something. Special mention to Nektarland regarding this last edition and I would even mention myself as I think that it is quite my style as well.

    Mina:
    Yugosokia - 80s song :P

    Rua:
I think I'd have to go with Sokko and her love for the oldies - although honourable mentions go to Teo for a strong Greek identity and Julio for his enjoyment of the Italian music scene.

    Ana:
Inspireland and Tildemarte, because both enjoy Italian power songs about overcoming adversity.

    Janet:
Adam - it’s a Scottish woman he’s sent before. Also Julio, Rua, Teo and Sok.

    Chris:
Villa Badia. When I heard Fink, I thought to myself, that sounds like a Nessie song.

    Sok:
Yugosokia keeping the old fogey mould running

    James:
Yugosokia, she never gave up with songs from the past.

    Ron:
IRDI is practically synonymous with Amy MacDonald

    Anette:
    Yugosokia, definitely

Which nation’s entry surprised you most? Why?

    Julio:
Can't say I'm THAT surprised by any but having to pick one I'll go for Stokkanslandet, not due to the song style itself but for the fact of Chris sending a returning singer, something he had never done before.

    Mina:
Nigaristian - it's not in Turkish

    Rua:
Planet Janet just because she definitely went out of her way to find something to shock us all (Hi Janet)

    Ana:
None, really, everybody stayed pretty much true to form.

    Janet:
Anette’s isn’t very Anettey, is it? and I suppose mine is a bit different, but then I don’t really think I’ve got a ‘style’; I think my choices have been very eclectic.

    Chris:
State of the Ark. Adel Tawil isn't Swedish!

    Sok:
I would say yours [Planet Janet] was a big surprise totally unique lol

    James:
State of the ark, because its not swedish or english and Norman because he has sent a Eurovision artist. [Balunistani ‘humour’]

    Ron:
Støkkanslåndet voluntarily sending a previous artist

    Anette:
    Planet Janet, unexpected

What is your best memory of the contest?

    Julio:
There are honestly too many to mention, having won so many times one of the moments I remember most is the first time I won and how I was the toilet till more than middle of the show to end up winning in the last vote. Another moment would be my only (to date) non top 10, which happened to be a brush holder, I was with JW when that edition aired and the only thing I did throughout the show was laugh at the result and that did mark my nation in the contest being the only song to not get into the top. Lastly and my actual pick for the answer of the question is my debut edition which was also the only time I was in a semi-final. I remember how excited I was to take part and how proud I was of my entry as they are my favourite band, when they were announced as a qualifier to the final of edition 18 was the start of a big journey that has now ended and that feeling i had back then of joy always remained and always is there when I listen to it so WTWAT.

    Mina:
The very first time Jonny suggested we have a chat contest. It's precious because I think that Anette and I are the only members present that nght who are still here (my apologies to jj if I'm wrong...I can't remember if he was in chat at the time...at least you know I do have a bad memory ^_^).

    Pedro:
When Saturn from Sleeping At Last started to play during one of the contests. It took my breath away and it got me really emotional! I spent several weeks listening to Sleeping At Last since.

    Rua:
I have many - but the standouts are the first time that I won the contest during the X4 edition and also, debuting in the contest. The sheer excitement of both times were quite overwhelming and I'm not usually one to be so forward with my emotions - genuine happiness.

    Rigmo:
Each and every single toilet I received. Also, the 6-way tie for 1st place and the voting leading up to it in edition #118.

    Ana:
    The Ama Ancora video

    Janet:
For edition 26 I helped jw with a bit of input about the scoreboard and really felt involved. We had Sonohra live in Verona. Julio won with one of my favourite songs - and it was his birthday! Also, sitting up all night with jw going through videos of people falling down escalators for the opening sequence of Edition 33; some were really funny; some were so horrible he wouldn’t even let me look at them. And listening to Kari Bremnes’ Nytt imellom oss, which Chris sent to #61. I just really needed a song like that then.

    Chris:
I have many FOND memories, like the times I won the old fogey trophy, or discovering a new favourite song, either submitted by someone else, or by the contest forcing me to go searching, and ofc. enjoying the company of my GOOD friend jw and the other regular members during contest events.

    Sok:
Worst memory is never winning lol. Best is almost winning in 67

    James:
When Lusitania declared the war to Jamoukovia.
When Lusitania declared the war to my ears by singing happy birthday songs with a towel on the presidents head.
When Hanita had all the things ready for the recap in the next edition and then didn't win.
The amazing cooperation with boby, Julio and jayne for T-editions
When Oswald couldn't vote, so he made his father vote and at the results show he noticed that Sr. voted for songs he didn't like
    Daisy's Roy Orbison Night
When Hanita pretended to be drunk
All the nice people that came into my life and the songs they introduced (exceptions: turn on the radio & PJ #130). Thank you, all!
Saddest moment of the contest: all Nortuga's votes.

    Ron:
So many to choose from. I'm going with the most excellent Fly With Us.

    Anette:
Difficult to say but I remember edition 8 when, for the first time, there were more than 30 nations.
    Mina likes this.
  7. Merjan BOSOPOFO ELSIE

Well this edition was very difficult to call - and mark! I think I've got the right highest/lowest ending/returner etc. but you never know.

Thank you for all your questions, answers and memories. :)
