#100 escChat Song Contest Awards

  1. NickEmpel BURGER AND FRIES

    Hey everyone!

    I've been in this contest for quite a while now (4 and a half years to be precise...) and I felt it was time for me to also organise a celebratory event for the escChat Song Contest. There are quite a few events going on already, but there's room for more!

    My idea is actually an old and brushed off idea, an idea started a while ago with Júlio and mgf JW. I'm bringing it back for #100: The escChat Song Contest Awards.

    The idea? In all categories, we will find the ultimate escChat Song Contest entry. And you will decide the winner on each category. The shortlists will be made by a special 'committee' per category (which is, in fact, a member of the escChat Song Contest + me).

    This won't be a surprise to many of you as I have already checked with a lot of you for the nominees in many a category. In total, there will be 23 categories and the exact procedure will be announced later. I can however tell you that the voting will take place in a rather short time frame, being between #100 and the Award Ceremony Night. That is so we can consider the songs from the editions until #100. The shortlists made in the past few days, made by you and me, will then be used. I will check with the creator of each shortlist to see if any adjustments will be necessary after #100.

    For now, I can however announce the 23 categories in which we will give out the Awards:

    • Best Runner-up
    • Best Third Place
    • Most Memorable Toilet
    • Best Début
    • Best Non-Qualifier
    • Best Male Artist
    • Best Female Artist
    • Best Group
    • Best Song by a Eurovision Artist
    • Best Video
    • Best Italian Song
    • Best French Song
    • Best German Song
    • Best Espanish Song
    • Best Nordic Song*
    • Best Finnic Language Song**
    • Best Hungarian Song
    • Best Slavic Song***
    • Best Asian Song
    • Best Dutch/Afrikaans Song
    • Best Bilingual Song
    • The Never Give Up Award****
    Some explanations for these....
    * = Nordic here means Icelandic, Swedish, Danish and Norwegian.
    ** = Finnic here means Finnish, Estonian and the Sami songs of our contest.
    *** = Slavic here means Polish, Czech, Slovak, Russian, Ukrainian and the ex-Yugoslav languages
    **** = The Never Give Up Award will be given to an act appearing a lot without ever winning.
    Right, that's that for now, I hope you will all be looking forward to these awards! There will be a second announcement within days!

    Update:

    Over the past few weeks, each of the categories has been filled with six nominees. These lists are, for now, provisional. All of these provisional lists have been sent to jw.

    However, if you feel you want to edit something to the category/categories you've helped to fill, then please PM me as soon as possible so we can finalise the lists as soon as we can.

    The event is there as a part of our celebrations for #100. It has to be a celebration for every single one of us, so if you have any doubts or concerns, please, don't hesitate to contact me.

    Just now, the first four categories were opened for voting. You are all asked to vote in these Awards to include as many of you as possible. Many thanks go out to Júlio for creating the recaps. I love how they look and I'm sure you'll love them too.

    The way of voting:
    Please send me an inbox message here with your pick in each category. That means you have one vote only per category.

    Deadlines:
    I need your votes in all categories by 12th July. It might be easiest for you to vote per group of released categories.
