    History of Lusitania in the Eurovision Song Contest

    The Kingdom of Lusitania gained its independence from Portugal in 1954. Beginning with the 1975 contest held in Stockholm, it has competed every year. However, in 34 years of competing it has never won the contest. Its best finish was a 7th place in 1983 with the song “Um começo novo” (A New Beginning). This placement can possibly be attributed to the overthrow of the dictatorship in the glorious Revolução dos Amor-perfeito (Pansy Revolution). The royal house of Pereira assumed the throne with Estêvão Pereira becoming Estêvão I de Lusitânia (Stephen I of Lusitania)
    Lusitania will be holding their national final for this year’s contest in a few days time. Their selection show “Euro Canção 2009”, will be broadcast on TVL1 (Televisão Lusitânia 1). All of Europe is invited to take part in the televote.
