Since some of us feel that the voting period is too long, especially since there are only 3 qualifiers for the final as things are now, let's give our opinion on it.

To be honest, I didn't think there was "a voting period". It seems to me that the voting period alters to fit in with circumstances or with the availability/preferences of the host etc.

Are you proposing that, if the voting period is shorter, the results are declared immediately and/or that the next contest starts straight away? (Sorry, but I wasn't in on the initial discussion.)

Well, since we don't have a show anymore, the results don't have to take a long time so, for example, the host + jj don't need weeks after the semi to prepare the final show etc. But anyway, this isn't about results. It's about the voting window we have in the contest page.
Like this time the voting window for the semi was 6 days..now it can be 4. Even less for the final since it's only 3 extra songs. Logically, this will help to have the results sooner, too (of course, depending on the host's schedule). Same goes for the next contest (again, always depending on host + jj and their schedule).

    And that is my point.

I've looked at the last 7 contests, some of which had shows and some didn't, of course, and the time between the end of the voting period and the results being revealed has varied from the same day to 12 days (albeit there were reasons for that being so long).

I might have to take issue with your contention that it would "help" have the results - and the next contest - sooner. Is that a "help"?

I KNOW that, generally speaking, there are not going to be results shows (for the time being anyway). However, the whole kit and caboodle is still work for jw, and the idea of him taking a couple of steps backwards was so that he didn't have so much work to do. Looking at the contest site, it seems to me that, historically, contests took place roughly once a month. With your suggestion it seems contests would be taking place every couple of weeks. That's still going to be a fair bit of work for him I think and I'm not sure we should be expecting him to do it. (I haven't spoken to him about this; he might not think that at all.)

And, to be honest, I'm not sure I would want a contest as often as that. It seems to me the question should not be, 'How long should the voting window be?' but 'How long should there be between the close of the voting window and the results presentation?' or 'how long should there be between contests?'

I thought the same, im okay on having few time to vote on final after all we should already know the songs as we voted them on semi, and only 3 are finalists so listening 3 more songs wont make bad to anyone, but this idea would make like maybe 2/3 contests per month?

I think there should be a limit of time between the editions because besides the work it gets harder to look for songs find a song submit a song etc so many times in few time.

So i agree on less time to vote, BUT the contest should still be one per month imo.

P.S. - Plus the fact that some escchaters (not the ones that only come to contest, those i dont care) can't be here all the time due to several facts, like Jonny decided himself to go out as he couldn't come here as often there are other members that can't too, and making it so many times and so few space between them, might endanger their participation (?).

i voted for the first one, but it has to be what jw wants the most, firstly.

I voted for 'keep it as it is now' and by that I mean it should just be depending on circumstances for each host and jw himself.
  8. Mina Member with a "past"

Like I said, when the results are, will depend on the host and jj. So, I don't see a problem.

But it will just be like a conveyor belt of contests.

What if circumstances dictate that the voting window needs to be left open a little longer?

Doesn't that mean that we're going to have to just make it circumstantial anyway? And what about when the voting format changes again. Jw has said it's not going to be left at 1 semi and 3 auto qualifiers, this will change everything again.

Perhaps I', just being selfish, but I really think we should not have a fixed timeframe on the voting period. People's plans change, and although everyone will have heard most of the songs for the semi, spme people (myself included) like to relisten to all the songs and vote afresh for the final.

Also Using this edition as an example. The results were released last night, but I'm not at home. In fact I'm sitting in Starbucks before going to a meeting. Not really convenient to vote, and I won't be back home until tomorrow morning.

That leaves me with 12 hours to vote if we implement the two day system for the final. Not your fault ofc, but not mine either.

Not everyone has the luxury of always being at home, and having access to internet every day, so I think we need to be flexible with these things and tailor them to the individual circumstances.
  12. Mina Member with a "past"

It goes without saying that in special circumstances, the voting period will be longer. Which is why I didn't even mention it in the poll. Those dates are just as a general idea.
And Adam, considering one of the 3 final song is yours, I imagine 12 hours will be enough to listen to the 2 remaining songs and vote ^_^
  13. jw HI. I'M ADAM SCOTT.

You do anyway, as since Edition 26 the final voting has always been until Tuesday only and this is no exception. :P
