I would like to introduce a new rule (doesn't apply to the current riddle):

Please make the clues as universally understandable as possible. I.e. not about specific chat members or this site's contest. We would like anyone interested in Eurovision to be able to take part, now wouldn't we?

I have a counter argument to your post. What makes us different from other social eurovision sites is that the chat room is the centrepiece, not the forum. As such, the forum complements chat. Anyone who has spent even a little time getting to know us would be familiar with references to inmaculada etc. Similarly, a minor contest reference could aid the identification of a riddle although in James's case the artist could be identified via the plethora of other hints too.

In my case, I deliberately went for the crusty riddle because it was 4am, I had already posted several riddles that night and planned on sleeping soon. I also knew Julio and James were both online and active in the thread, both with sufficient knowledge to work out the answer. I also knew I wouldn't be online until late, so instead of potentially letting the thread stagnate all day due to being offline and thus unable to respond to any guesses, I posted an easy one that still had a valid (in my opinion) link to this place and Eurovision (which is more than can be said about the posts in certain other game based threads) so someone else could take over.

In closing, I would also like to put it to you that riddles relating to chat/our contest that still have a link to eurovision are far more accessible and easier to solve than some of the other "pure" riddles, as evidenced by how quickly (or not) they have been solved. So as games master, you need to ask yourself: Do you still want to enforce a rule that will make the game potentially stagnate, just for the sake of 'purity' and to "let anyone who is interested in eurovision" take part? Because if so, regarding the latter point, you also need a rule to stop people posting such obscure riddles which attract little attention, pique the interest of few, and take days to solve. After all, we do want the game to be both intellectual and successful, right?

No, this is all correct, and it even seemed like the game became even more active when it made connections to members. I agree in principle with all you said, the reason why I suggested the rule was to not make it inaccessible to outsiders and new people, but many of the riddles fulfil that wish already. So, disregard what I said before.
