Australia is not Texas! We'd probably send Pop or RnB or something. Once Kosovo is fully recognised as a separate country, they'll be able to enter Eurovision. Right now it's just as likely for Kosovo to have an entry as Transinistria! But don't worry Lily, your time will come!
And finally Moldova confirmed so that takes care of everyone from last year. So it's a definite 40 countries next year (41 if Montenegro makes it) According to several reports Montenegro will have an entry, BUT the singer must fund it themselves... A decision will be reached on the 21st. Good luck finding someone.
Lovely Liam showed me some news that says that while Hungary's DunaTV wasn't accepted in the EBU, their original station MTV could still make a comeback and possibly send an entry next year. Fingers crossed
According to esckaz which I find more reliable than oikotimes (who doesn't ) San Marino has applied for 2011. 50% of San Marino RTV is owned by Italy's RAI, so maybe their return has something to do with it. Let's hope it's a fact and not just a rumor. If all goes well and San Marino, Hungary, and Montenegro enter then 2011 will tie with 2008 as the year with most participations (43). Too bad Slovakia's out; the record could've been broken, but we hope to see them back as soon as possible. No debuts/new stations this year I read because supposedly MTV (Hungary) said they bounced back and want to be in 2011 so Duna TV's bid has been postponed and I heard Liechtenstein doesn't offer enough types of programming (variety) so it has not been accepted yet. Too bad. :/ We'll know the final list of countries at the end of the month.
Information on Austria's preselection format has been released and the entries will be trimmed from 147 to - get this...5! Just 5! A jury will now assess all the entries, to be narrowed down to 30. As of January 3rd, an online voting will be opened and the 5 candidates with highest scores will qualify for the final to be held on February 25th. Some are former Eurovision representatives such as Waterloo, Robinson (1976), Petra Frey (1994), Alf Poier (2003) and Tie-Break member Di Bernardo (2004). There are also several past Starmania contestants. The winning song will be selected via 100% televoting. Good luck.
one artist confirmed to portugal deborah gonçalves sent a song to be acceped or not by the juries but for me one of the best port singers atm
Armenia's singer is confirmed...it's Emmy who along with Mihran got second behind Eva last year and whose mommy cried that ARMTV played foul. They will give Emmy some songs and the public will choose. Here's the 2010 Armenian runner-up :x http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wrln4oufJCo&feature=related
From Switzerland comes news that Anna Rossillini is the first act to go to Duesseldorf. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-L7vHeAyvqA
more details about national final it will be on 1st week of March, before that 20 to 24 songs will be online for voting the 12 most voted songs in internet will go straight to the final this year there wont be semi finals.
News of interest about Slovakia We have all been able to read the messages about Slovakia's withdrawal. HOWEVER on a website which might not be considered as the most reliable one (Oikotimes), an article was posted about the provisional list of participants (which have shown interest til now). Remarkably, not only Austria, Italy, San Marino and Montenegro were on that list, but as you can all already guess: Slovakia was too. The outcome of this case is expected later this month. I think the Slovakian decision will be made at the last day countries can withdraw or enter. I hope to see Slovakia in 2011. The Oikotimes article: http://www.oikotimes.com/v2/index.php?file=articles&id=9387
If everyone on that list makes it, we'll have a record number 44 entries!;D Thanks for the article, Nicki. *mwah*
Countries that might make it to 2011 From what I heard these countries are on the "We applied, but haven't confirmed 100% (could still withdraw before Christmas without punishment)" list: Slovakia Hungary San Marino Montenegro The other microstates are forgiven because they say the cost is too high, but Czech Republic keeps being the only stinker.
noooooooooo X Factor's Jedward have confirmed to DS their intentions to be this year's Irish Eurovision entry. The Grimes brothers claimed that they are planning to take their pop brand worldwide in 2011 by taking part in the TV talent competition. Lord help us if they get picked http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s103/the-x-factor/news/a292994/jedward-confirm-eurovision-plans.html
Hmmm, only one joke entry so far then! I imagine if this is true (after all DigitalSpy are only slightly more reliable than Oink-o-times) and they do appear in the NF they'll easily be sent to Düsseldorf. I fail to see how they can take their 'brand' (LOLZ) worldwide when they couldn't even manage to sustain a career in the UK, it's not like people in Croatia or Latvia are going to be any more receptive towards them than us. Really, no one gives a shit. It will be like Dustin all over again except 1000 times less amusing and witty.
