Relaxation of the 5 minute limit

  1. jw HI. I'M ADAM SCOTT.

    Hi,

Starting next edition, the 5 minute limit rule will be relaxed a little bit, and you will be permitted to send one song over this limit per 10 edition cycle, as long as it does not exceed 10 minutes.

Once you've sent a song that exceeds the 5 minute limit, you'll once again be limited to songs that are less than 5 minutes for the remainder of the cycle.

You will be able to see if you can send an extended length song during the submission process by checking the last bullet point on the first screen:

This means you can send an extended length song. If you can't, you'll see this instead:

Please note that this rule may be revised or removed at a later date, depending on feedback over time.

Of course, just because you can now do this, doesn't mean you necessarily should. If you want the rule to stay, don't abuse it with ridiculously long songs. The 10 minute maximum time was chosen to let you pick any reasonable song without fear of hitting the limit. If your song actually gets close to that limit, think again before submitting it.
