COTTON CLUB Güneç has a big, fluffy, white cat called Pamuk, which is the Turkish word for cotton. One of my all-time favourite writers is Turkish author and Nobel Prize winner Orhan Pamuk. Cottonland or Cottonstan or the like sounded lame, but Cotton Club had a nice ring to it - NOWT to do with the American jazz club with the same name. The flag is a mashup of the Turkish and Belgian flags. The central element is a cotton flower. The two crescents can be construed as CC for the team name.
I had always intended to explain the rationale behind our name but somehow never got round to it; it is very convoluted Rua might want to add to this, or amend it... Rua had seen the peacock and thought it would be a good centrepiece for our flag. It reminded him of the video we watched of the poor peacock valiantly strutting his stuff while the ladies around him completely ignored him and just got on with eating their dinner We then "researched" peacocks and discovered their tail is actually called a 'train' and we went through various possible train names (Train of Thought; Train Crash/Wreck). Then we found out a group of peacocks is called an Ostentation, so we tried some ostentation names, but thought they weren't at all appropriate as if there were ever 2 people who weren't at all ostentatious it was us 2 Then we happened upon a tale of another lovesick peacock who had been named Trevor by locals. I remembered that Trevor Peacock played Jim Trott in The Vicar of Dibley. No-no-no-no-no-no-yes he did. And Rua had to point out to me that that was probably why the locals named him Trevor And so team Trevor was created .
